Ivory Coast Infrastructure — Abidjan Metro and Northern Corridor Projects
Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) has been West Africa's fastest-growing economy for a decade, and its infrastructure programme has scaled to match. The Abidjan Metro, the Northern Corridor road build-out, and the country's expanding gold mining sector are all driving heavy-equipment demand — much of it via Jebel Ali.
Ivory Coast economic state 2026
GDP growth 6.5%+ annually. Political environment stable. West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) membership provides CFA franc stability against euro. Infrastructure and mining are the two engines of growth.
Live infrastructure
- Abidjan Metro Line 1 — 37 km light rail; Chinese-financed and Chinese-built. Heavy-lift and crane work through 2027.
- Northern Corridor road programme — Abidjan-Ouagadougou-Bamako-Niger multi-national corridor upgrade.
- Port of San Pedro expansion — cocoa export capacity plus new container terminal.
- Yamoussoukro Airport expansion — regional hub build-out.
Gold mining expansion
Endeavour Mining (Ity), Barrick Gold (Tongon), Perseus Mining (Sissingué), Roxgold (Yaramoko in Burkina but supply-chain through Abidjan). Ivory Coast is one of Africa's fastest-growing gold jurisdictions.
Equipment demand
- Mobile cranes 25T–80T for metro civil works.
- Excavators 20T–40T for road-corridor earthworks.
- Wheel loaders for gold mine feed hoppers.
- JCB Loadalls — moderate uptake, mostly on residential construction in Abidjan.
- Dump trucks 20 m³ for corridor projects.
The UAE → Abidjan flow
Jebel Ali → Abidjan bi-weekly sailings, ~16 days transit. Ivory Coast import duty on heavy machinery is 10% plus 18% VAT under WAEMU rules. Certificate of Origin from Sharjah Chamber is accepted; French-language commercial invoice is preferred (French is the working language).
